In short
We cover the eight municipalities of the Valle del Guadalhorce: Alhaurín de la Torre, Alhaurín el Grande, Almogía, Álora, Cártama, Coín, Pizarra and Valle de Abdalajís, including areas such as Pinos de Alhaurín and Alhaurín Golf. The asbestos-containing material is removed by a company registered in the RERA working as our subcontractor; we coordinate it and handle the rest of the demolition and clean-up.
The Guadalhorce valley: our area
The Valle del Guadalhorce is one of the nine comarcas of the province of Málaga, established by the Andalusian Government in 2003. It groups eight municipalities – Alhaurín de la Torre, Alhaurín el Grande, Almogía, Álora, Cártama, Coín, Pizarra and Valle de Abdalajís – and belongs to the natural region of the Guadalhorce river, after which it is named. Coín is its capital and traditionally its most important town.
The comarca mixes irrigated farmland along the river, hillside fincas and fast-growing residential areas close to Málaga city and the coast. Many foreign residents live in the urbanisations around Alhaurín el Grande, Pinos de Alhaurín, Alhaurín Golf and the countryside of Coín and Cártama, which shapes the kind of enquiry we receive here.
Farm buildings and agricultural warehouses
On working fincas, fibre-cement was the standard roof for anything that needed to be covered cheaply and quickly. Along the valley that typically means:
- Corrugated roofs on stores, packing sheds and machinery shelters, sometimes several hundred square metres in one building.
- Livestock and poultry buildings with long, low fibre-cement roofs.
- Irrigation pipes, pump houses and water tanks serving orchards and vegetable plots.
Large roofs raise specific questions – fragile sheets that cannot be walked on, gutters full of debris, purlins that may need replacing – which are covered on our page about asbestos in warehouses. Buried or half-buried irrigation pipes belong to asbestos pipes and tanks.
Villas and plots in the residential areas
In the residential parts of Alhaurín el Grande, Alhaurín de la Torre, Coín and Cártama the fibre-cement is usually on secondary structures: a carport or a covered terrace, a garden store, the roof of a pool plant room, a stand-alone water tank. Owners often discover it when they plan an extension, sell the house or receive a buyer's survey.
These jobs are smaller but need the same procedure as a large roof: the RERA-registered subcontractor prepares its work plan, which the labour authority of the province must approve before work starts, and the material is removed whole, wrapped and kept apart from everything else. Afterwards we remove the remaining structure if needed and leave the area ready for its new roof – see uralita roof removal and our guide on how to recognise uralita.
Waste, paperwork and planning the job
Asbestos waste (LER code 17 06 05*) is hazardous, may not be mixed with other waste and is delivered to an authorised manager; you receive the delivery receipts. The rest of the rubble from any demolition is sorted on site, as the waste law requires.
If the asbestos removal is part of demolishing a building or a warehouse, check with the ayuntamiento first whether a declaración responsable or a licence applies, and whether skips in the street need an authorisation to occupy the public road. For general demolition, our sister site has pages for Coín, Cártama and Alhaurín el Grande. To get started, send us photos, the location and the approximate size, and read our page on uralita removal.
A note for owners who live abroad part of the year: the job does not require you to be on site. A key holder, neighbour or property manager can open up, and we keep you informed by e-mail or WhatsApp in English, with photos before, during and after the removal.

Frequently asked questions
Do you work in Pinos de Alhaurín and Alhaurín Golf?
Yes. Both are within the municipalities of the Valle del Guadalhorce, which is fully in our service area.
We have a large uralita roof on a farm warehouse near Álora. Can it be removed while the building stays in use?
Sometimes, if the area under the roof can be emptied and closed off while the asbestos phase lasts. The subcontractor's work plan defines the working area and what must be cleared beforehand.
Are old fibre-cement irrigation pipes in the ground dangerous?
Intact pipes in the ground are mainly a problem when they are broken, cut or dug up. If they have to be removed, it is done as asbestos work by the RERA-registered subcontractor.
Can the warehouse be demolished in the same job after the uralita comes off?
Yes. Once the asbestos material has been removed by the subcontractor, we can demolish the structure and take away the sorted rubble; check first with the ayuntamiento which procedure the demolition needs.
A buyer's survey flagged my carport roof as possible asbestos. What next?
Have a sample analysed if it has not been done yet, then ask for a description of the removal and replacement. That gives you and the buyer a clear basis for negotiating.
How should I prepare for the first visit?
Send photos of the roof from above and below, the approximate size, the location and a photo of the access. Note anything else on site that contains fibre-cement, such as tanks or pipes.
Is a waste deposit required by the town hall?
The town hall may require a deposit or guarantee for construction waste, returned once delivery to an authorised manager is proven. The amount depends on the municipal ordinance.
Can I stay in the house during the removal of a garage roof?
Often yes, if the work area can be closed off as the work plan requires. This is discussed before the dates are set.
Is Real Decreto 396/2006 still in force?
No. It was repealed by Real Decreto 847/2026, which now regulates work with asbestos exposure.
Does the census oblige me to remove my uralita?
The law does not set a fixed date for private owners. It sets a 2028 horizon for higher-risk public buildings.
